Els for Autism Moves Closer to Inclusive Recreation Center in South FL

Spread the word!

Els for Autism shared gratitude for Senator Gayle Harrell, Representative John Snyder, and the State of Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities for their support of the organizationโ€™s upcoming Specialized Autism Friendly Recreation Complex in Jupiter, Florida.

โ€œThanks to their belief in our mission, we have been awarded a total of $4.5 million toward its construction over the past three years,โ€ Els for Autism shared this week, adding, โ€œWe were delighted to welcome them to last monthโ€™s groundbreaking ceremony, where they presented a check for the latest state appropriation of $2.5 million. They then joined the Els family at the dig site to share in a memorable moment of celebration along with Representative Meg Weinberger.โ€

Els for Autism explained that the โ€œoutstanding advocacyโ€ of Senator Harrell, Representative Snyder, and the State of Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities have brought them even closer to achieving their $20 million fundraising goal.

Els for Autism is building the first sports and recreation facility in the United States to be ASPECTSS compliant. For those not involved, ASPECTSS is an acronym for seven key design factors, including: Acoustics, Spatial sequencing, Escape space, Compartmentalization, Transition spaces, Sensory zoning, and Safety. Created by architect Dr. Magda Mostafa, this framework helps design and build environments that address sensory needs and promote wellbeing to be inclusive for individuals with autism.

The Els for Autism Recreation Complex specifically will be a state-of-the-art recreational facility providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where individuals with autism of all ages and abilities can engage in recreational activities designed to meet their needs. The Recreation Complex will include a gymnasium, aquatic center, and splash pad.
